Christ Preschool Class Information

Please note that a child only moves to a new class in the fall.

As a Christian based Preschool, the spiritual development of the child is an important part of our curriculum. In addition to learning prayers and songs, the classes will meet with the Pastor through the year. Introduction to Bible stories will be through videos, books, songs, and art activities. Most importantly, each child will learn of the love that Jesus has for each of us.

Christ Lutheran Preschool is a Gold Awarded program by Step Up to Quality rating center of Ohio  (formally known as Five Star rating, the highest). The Step Up to Quality program is a tiered quality rating and improvement system for licensed early learning and development programs in our state. We have smaller teacher to student ratios than the state requires, our staff has high education qualifications, our lesson plans reflect the state education standards, and our staff receives continuous training to better support your child’s development and learning among the other things we do to provide your child with a solid foundation for success in school and life.

The preschool program for all age groups is in an atmosphere of structured play. Although the individual programs differ in content and the amount of structure, they are all designed to help the children develop spiritually, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically.

We use the Fundations Pre-K Activity Set in our classes as a part of our literacy program. It is the same program that the Avon Lake City Schools used in their preschool and at the kindergarten level. Emphasis is on letter recognition, letter-sound correspondence, and letter formation. More information about this fun and interactive program is at www.wilsonlanguage.com/pre-k.

LUNCH BUDDIES:  Lunch Buddies takes place during the hour between the morning and the afternoon classes (11:30 am-12:30 pm) in one of our classrooms and is supervised by our staff members. Children bring their own peanut free lunch and a drink, eat with their friends, and then enjoy free play, recess, and a story before going home or staying for their afternoon class. The cost is $6.00 per day and participation is voluntary. Children in the 2 ½ year old classes are not eligible for the Lunch Buddies program. Sign- up sheets are on the bulletin board in the north hall.

CHILD MEDICALS:  A Health Care Practitioner must examine each child yearly, per state law. Each child must have a valid signed medical form and a list of their immunizations on file. All children must have the immunizations listed in the Ohio Revised Code, unless they are medically contraindicated or not medically appropriate for the child’s age.

2 ½ YEAR OLD CLASSES      (This class will not be open in fall of 2024.  May open in Winter of 2025)

2 ½ year old classes are for children who are at least 30 months of age before their first day of school. Teachers will encourage, in conjunction with the family’s efforts at home, the child to use the restroom during classThere will be a maximum of 7 children in the class with 1 lead teacher and an assistant. In class the children will do art projects, eat a snack, have a short group time, listen to stories, engage in free play and outdoor or gym time. Taking turns, sharing, and taking directions from the teacher are among the social skills that they will practice. Academically, an introduction to shapes, colors, letters, numbers, and name recognition will be part of the class experience.

3-YEAR-OLD CLASSES

Children in a three-year-old class must be 3 years old and toilet trained before their first day of class. The class day will include a group circle time, art projects, free play, gym or playground time, snack, and stories. Academics will include colors, shapes, numbers, math and science concepts, an introduction to the names and sounds of letters using the Fundations Pre-K Activity Set, as well as beginning to print their name during the second half of the school year. The classroom schedule has short and varied activities to meet the child’s attention span.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN CLASSES

Children will try new things and to do as much as they can do on their own to develop confidence in their ability.

FULL DAY PRESCHOOL OPTION: Full day preschool students attend both the AM 4 Day Pre-K class and the afternoon Blended class. Only children registered for the full day choice will attend class on Monday afternoon as the regular Blended class is Tuesday through Thursday.
